Doors Open Minneapolis 2019 Welcomed Thousands of Residents and Visitors

The city of Minneapolis is highlighted like never before with a behind-the-scenes look through Doors Open Minneapolis

The first-ever Doors Open Minneapolis is now history and, by every indication, this inaugural city-wide celebration was a resounding success.

Held the weekend of May 18-19, Doors Open Minneapolis gave the public free, behind-the-scenes access to unique venues throughout the city that are architecturally, culturally or socially significant. A total of 112 organizations participated in Doors Open Minneapolis, with more than 71,000 visits made by the public in just 14 hours.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, who visited seven venues himself, was thrilled with the outcome of this inaugural event.

“Doors Open brought people together in an extraordinary way – all with the express purpose of celebrating Minneapolis and the buildings and businesses that have helped make it a world-class city,” said Frey. “Thanks to the Doors Open volunteers, sponsors, and participants, we found a new way to tell Minneapolis’ story, and their commitment made year one a huge success.”

Some of the most popular stops over the weekend were the Minneapolis Scottish Rites temple, the Prospect Park ‘Witches Hat’ Tower and the main U.S. Post office in downtown. The Federal Reserve Bank attracted the most traffic with more than 5,900 guests.
