Comcast Sponsors Salvation Army’s Down for the Challenge to Fight Homelessness

Comcast was a proud sponsor of this years Salvation Army Down for the Challenge where the focus is to fight homelessness here in the Twin Cities. Comcast employees participated in the cause by repelling from the top of the Omni Viking Lake Hotel in Eagan. All money raised for Down for the Challenge will support The Salvation Army’s housing and homeless prevention programs in the Twin Cities. These programs are a lifeline for those experiencing homelessness, helping people and families to secure safe housing and a brighter future.

Currently, there are 77,000 Minnesota households behind on their rent, 80% of them from low-income households. There are over 10,000 individuals who are experiencing homelessness in the Twin Cities alone.

For every $1,000 a rappeler raises a life can be transformed. This money provides:

  • Rent/mortgage assistance that prevents a family from being evicted.
  • Safe and dignified emergency shelter, meals, and related care for 17 individuals.
  • 4,200 meals to help families in need stretch their budgets and remain in their home.

Comcast’s commitment to community service has been deeply embedded in our DNA for decades. Since 2001, more than one million Comcast employees, family members, and friends across 23 countries have completed over seven million hours of service at 12,000 project sites through Comcast Cares– one of the largest corporate commitments to volunteerism and service in America.
